Hearing about Flux looks as though it will have quite an impact on my life as I move onward. I am happy to be involved with such an organization and hope to see it change the way backing is done in the poker community.
I joined up with other members of the Flux team in Atlantic City for a week and a half of live grinding and fun. The experience was phenomenal, I do not get the chance to meet or talk to other serious poker players that often and this trip allowed me to really expand my group of friends in the community. It might not sound like much, but it is so +EV just being around other serious poker players, not only will you learn a ton, but having people who can actually relate to what poker is like is truly a gift.
The poker itself was pretty fun. Having not really played a lot of live since my school days, it took me a while to really get back to the flow of it. I would actually venture to say that I improved a bit from playing live, just feel like I have gotten better at playing the fish [online], watching so many hands that I normally wouldn't follow the action of. During the stay I ran pretty well, and realized how lucrative soft 5/10 or 10/20 games can be. I am hoping to find some similar games in the Detroit or Windsor casino scene, as it is a nice break from online and can still net a decent hourly.
If ever any of you have a chance to participate in a Flux or any kind of trip like this I would snap recommend it. The hospitality truly was top notch, but even without that luxury it was just so much fun getting to spend time with some great people. As poker is such an isolating experience, and it is unlikely you have a group of friends who truly understand what you're going through, it really is +EV to meet some poker people and hang out in person with them.
A huge thanks to Jared, Gary, and the Solomons for putting together a great trip. It was a joy getting to meet you guys [and everyone else], and I hope there are many great times ahead for us all.
Now back to my real life. I have moved into a great place in Royal Oak and have been mostly just going out this weekend, but had to get in my hands for the iron man bonus. Luckily I have been running well, and I feel I have taken yet another step forward in my game, and in all honesty that probably is related to some of the conversations I had in Atlantic City.
I am definitely playing a bit stronger postflop, and am getting better at the levels game with some of the regs. Still looking for a few spots where I can gain an edge in the 3b postflop game, but feel like I am making some great progress and it will only be a matter of time until I am crushing 200.
